Clothing should make you feel free, free to be anything—you should wear clothes that make you feel like you, and it’s totally fine to be one thing one moment and then someone else the next. Giovanna Randall is the head designer and CEO of Honor. An opera singer turned pre-medical student turned luxury designer, Giovanna trained at FIT before interning at CNC Costume National in Milan. Profoundly influenced by generations of her Italian and Welsh family—as large as it is close-knit—Giovanna named Honor after her own adored sister, and her vision is infused with a heritage of fearless women, past and present. Giovanna’s approach places equal importance on creativity and principled business practices. Core to HONOR’s mission is a dedication to bringing industry back to Manhattan’s historic garment district, deference to the art of garment-making, and fair treatment and wages for the extraordinarily skilled artisans who fashion them. Says Randall of her role in HONOR, “Being a good designer or even a great designer isn’t enough. You have to design the whole company.” The Fall 2012 show marks the fifth collection for HONOR, which is currently available at its flagship store in Manhattan, located at 68 Gansevoort Street and will soon be available online at www.honornyc.com.
