FROM COUNTRY TO COUTURE
This year we’re honoured to have Darwin Aboriginal Art Fair Foundation (DAAFF) make their official debut on the MBFWA runway. DAAFF will present their one of a kind Australian Indigenous Fashion Showcase that celebrates the marriage of Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander culture, art and high end fashion.
Bringing together collections from five of Australia’s leading First Nations designers, this is an exceptionally exciting opportunity for MBFWA guests to connect to the world’s oldest living culture.
This unique showcase has witnessed monumental growth and popularity out of the success of the Country to Couture fashion runway held every August as part of the Darwin Aboriginal Art Fair (DAAF) program. Country to Couture is a celebration of Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander textiles and fashion design as well as a contemporary way of showcasing cultural storytelling, and sharing knowledge.
The Australian Indigenous Fashion Showcase forms as a vibrant platform for Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander designers to share their art, design, and culture with the local and international fashion community attending MBFWA. Tickets are now available to DAAFF’s showcase taking place Friday 15 May at 4.30pm.
DAAFF will also be providing opportunities for Indigenous stylists, creatives, and fashion industry professionals to contribute to producing and managing the show.
